The Brittany Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, care and placement of homeless dogs.

The dogs are shown at our weekly adoption program at our sanctuary in Agua Dulce. Please check our schedule for adoption events. While in our care, the dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and given a thorough check-up along with any necessary medical attention. Our dogs are also microchipped.  If dogs are not adopted, they will live at the sanctuary for their entire life.  We run a no-kill facility.

We rescue all dogs, regardless of breed, and we often focus our efforts on the harder-to-place dogs such as seniors, disabled or abused dogs, and "media condemned" breeds such as Pit Bulls, Chow Chows, & Dobies. It's relatively easy to find a home for a cute little terrier, but the gratification for us comes from placing the 6-year-old Pit Bull with one eye, the stray mutt who has never had a home before, or the 12-year-old Doberman with severe separation anxiety (who is now living in a wonderful home of his own). Of course, we also have the adorable, easy, well-behaved angels who are still searching for their forever homes too.

13 New Dogs in One Day!

The Brittany Foundation recently took in 13 dogs who all need some special help. They all arrived on June 13, from two different sources.

Sonny, Red, and Violet are three chihuahua mixes whose owner was losing her home and could not take them with her. They are only one year old, and have spent most of their lives with dogs. They have had very little socialization with humans. Very sweet but very uncertain with us, we anticipate that it will take some effort from our volunteers to get them ready for homes, as well as standard veterinary care. Luckily, they're young enough that it's likely they haven't developed any serious health conditions, but we will take them to our vet and find out.

On the same day, June 13, our friend and volunteer Rochelle was set to pick up 5 dogs from a hoarder. The place they lived was typical of a hoarder (if you've ever seen the hoarding shows on TV, you know what we're talking about). When Rochelle arrived, it turned out there were 10 dogs in need, not 5 - and Animal Control was planning to come the next morning to collect them and put them down. Needless to say, we took all 10.

These 10 dogs range in age from about 5 years old to 13+ years. They are suffering with a variety of conditions, from ear infections and rotting teeth to cataracts to fleas. They were all horribly matted, but our groomer graciously offered to come to the ranch and help get them more comfortable by shaving off all that old fur. It's been hard to examine them as they are all afraid of people to varying degrees, but we will bring them to our vet as soon as we can, and get full health assessments for all.

YOU CAN HELP! We need lots of assistance with this group, from financial to volunteering to just sitting with them to help them get used to humans. Any financial help you can offer will help to pay for vet visits, blood panels, vaccinations, microchips, spay/neuter, dental cleaning, removal of any masses associated with them not being spayed or neutered previously, and anything else our vet might find.

We appreciate any help you can offer. Even a small donation will help to cover vet costs which we estimate will be in the thousands of dollars for these babies.

Please feel free to come visit them and spend time with them! The more love and attention they get, the faster we can get them ready to go to new homes!

If you can make a donation, please use the dedicated Paypal button below. These donations will go into a special fund for these dogs. You can also send a check via snail mail to P.O. Box 738, Acton, CA 93510-0738.

Volunteer Spotlight

Jen has been volunteering with The Brittany Foundation for over a year, and we could not be luckier to have her! She joins us from Montana while her husband works on a project in the Antelope Valley. Her love and commitment to animals shows in her dedication to our organization. Despite her busy schedule, she still manages to come up on Tuesdays to help with kennel and ranch duties, and volunteers at occasional adoption events. She has been a great help organizing fundraising events this past year and to top it off, she raised more than $2000 in our Day In Their Paws fundraiser last fall! Way to go, Jen!!

All of our pups (and humans) at the Brittany Foundation appreciate the dedication shown by this generous individual! Thank you, Jen!

Jen is pictured here with J-Lo, a boxer/sharpei mix who is available for adoption. For more information on J-Lo, click here to visit her profile page.

Interested in volunteering? We could always use a few more hands, whether it's at the sanctuary, at adoption events, or we even have ways you can help from home! Email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you'd like to get involved!

We are Volunteers

volunteers

The Brittany Foundation is an all-volunteer organization. Our devoted staff handles the care, feeding, event coordination, public awareness campaigns and many other needs for our busy facility. Brittany Foundation volunteers know each dog personally, and they know how to assist you in finding the right dog for your needs, home and lifestyle.

Without the devotion to animals that the Brittany Foundation volunteers bring to our organization, we could not survive to help these dogs find homes.

If you are interested in volunteering, check out the "How to Help" section of our website. Even if you can't give a dog a home, you can make a difference in an animal's life. The Brittany Foundation is always seeking fellow dog lovers to assist our humane mission.

Even if you can't adopt, our dogs could still use your support. It's easy! Just click on the PayPal button below. Thank you.

We need labor for construction, landscape maintenance, providing socialization and care for the dogs in their kennels, staffing events and administrative tasks. We are a working ranch that always has projects which require help, for example with brush clearance during fire season.
